In Palo Alto, it seems as though people don't cross streets unless told to do so by a man made of white lights. It's like in Harold & Kumor when Harold refused to cross the street until the street light turned green at 3am in BFE.

I dont want to be a New York asshole and run through the streets any chance I get, but sometimes it's ridiculous. THERE ARE NO CARS. I AM GOING.

This has been the longest two weeks of my life. TWO WEEKS WITHOUT INTERNET, FRIENDS, and a good running trail. Well, I'm not too upset about not running in the 480 degree weather with 110% humidity. Actually, Vegas and NC are tied in the crappy running weather race. Breathing in desert air while running three miles is like smoking two packs of menthols in a half hour; not like I've ever smoked an entire pack of menthols, only one and that one stick made me cough like a sixty year old with emphysema.
i'm trying to get a job..will tell you more later.

Wednesday, September 7

Um, if i have a hand full of shit, don't talk to me and then offer me your business card just in case either of our cars are in the way of each other. plus, let's not ask me about my life stories. My arms are full of glass dinnerware and I rather not break them upon my foot. Yay for inappropriate neighbors.
I had a fun filled day of straight 6 hours of shopping. One item that was on the list was a new battery cord. Unfortunately, I ripped the last wire out of my Dell cord and the battery pack short circuited. It was about time because it was surviving by a tiny piece of electrical tape for a couple of weeks.

Anyway I went to Best Buy (I would have done newegg but I needed the cord stat) and found a universal battery pack that was marked down twenty dollars from the original price because it was an open package. I happily bought it for forty dollars plus an additional twenty dollar mail-in rebate. Well by the time I get home to test the bastard, I was jittery, in a rush, and had been shopping for three-fourths of the day. I didn't see that there were multiple outlets to cater to a myriad of laptop plugs and tried to fit in the base part to the back of my computer. Of course it didn't fit, because I failed to see I had to attach the little attachment thing specifically made for Dell computers. In an attempt to fit the plug into the computer again (square peg in a round role phenomenon) I short circuited the battery pack. So I managed to short circuit two battery packs in 24-hours.

I rushed back to Best Buy to return the defunct item, adding to my already long day with little to no food. The Best Buy girl lady gave me back my money and I headed back to the computer section of the store looking for the right item. Only when I calmed down and looked at the picture on the packages did I realize that the small zipped black bag I haphazardly thrown on the desk at home while putting the computer together contained all the tiny attachments. Not only did I not look in the bag to see the solution to my square peg round hole problem, I failed to bring it to Best Buy as part of my return item.

I felt like a total dumbass. I had to buy the same item at full price and walk out of there feeling like a total dumbass. I would have asked to take back the discounted item, but I broke the damn thing. Dumbassity abounds in California. Apparenlty nice weather makes you lose common sense. Maybe it's the constant THC in the air.

If you need a spare battery attachment for a laptop, hit me up. I GOT TWO BLACK BAGGIES FULL.

Tuesday, September 6

There is one cute guy in my phd program named Derek. One cute guy out of 5 in the program (let's not forget the 50 females), two of whom are gay, two of wohom are asian, and one who is uncategorical (is that a word?). I assumed that with the ratio of female to males in my program, the probability of finding a suitable victim would be low and that I would never have a reason to comb my hair for the next five years. By the end of orientation today, I accepted the fact that it would be a good thing to have motivation to wake up in the morning, put on makeup, and look decent for the public.

Three hours later: My dreams of flirting with a classmate (flirting, not date), has just been shattered. I am at Borders Cafe and I saw his arm wrapped around a girl: AN ASIAN GIRL! So I guess the lone cute guy in class has a girlfriend or a faghag. Either way, my hair styling tools will see little action for a while. Well good. I hear the bird's nest look is back again.
you know, they could just not give us 'welcome gifts' and lower the tuition at this place. i could do without another tshirt, water bottle, and famous amos cookies. i'll keep the beer mug though.
orientation starts today then classes tomorrow. school sucks. ha. jaykay. maybe grad school is different than undergrad. at least i have parking.
